Faculty members of the Marlboro Central School District stood in silent demonstration last week, lining the drop-off lanes in front of schools wearing red and carrying signs. The action underscored frustration over the 88 days that have passed since their contract expired.

The Hudson Valley Times previously reported that while New York labor law allows teachers and staff to continue working without a contract, they do so under the terms of the expired agreement. Pay raises and other negotiated improvements are frozen until a new contract is ratified.
Union representatives have not yet released details of their bargaining position, and the district has not provided a public update on negotiations. The demonstration was intended to call attention to the stalemate and increase community awareness.
“The human capital of the teaching staff is the most valuable asset in any district. Teachers should be valued and treated that way,” said Marlboro Faculty Association President Sarah Santora.
Parents and residents are encouraged to share feedback with the School Board. Public comments can be made during board meetings or written directly to the Board at MarlboroBOE@marlboroschools.org.
The next regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting is October 9 at Marlboro Middle School. A full schedule of meetings for the 2025–2026 school year is posted on the Board of Education’s website.
For background, the district’s most recent contract, now expired, is publicly available online. Board meeting agendas and minutes can be accessed through Board Docs.
